ALC Menswear Launches Autumn Winter 2018 Collection

Range Rationale

“Feels Like Home”

The ALC Menswear AW18 Collection is inspired by the familiar, sensory overload experienced on the streets of Durban’s CBD; the feeling one gets standing on a street corner or walking down an arcade and seeing sign upon sign, interesting aromas and textures.

The simple construction and geometry of the popular checked shopping bag (AKA “khonza ekhaya”)  is referenced and reinterpreted through the voluminous avant-garde pieces designed for this season. We opted to take a more noticeable approach to branding, styled our pants with deep turn-ups and played with colour blocking as well as directional stripes and contrast binding. Overall there is a balance – be it upper volume with tapered bottoms, or lower volume with tailored tops.

The fabrics chosen for the collection range from plaids, Shweshwe, brushed twills and ticking to unbrushed fleece. The brands seasonal colours were picked from hand-painted street signs, plastics, shop fronts in the CBD, and combining that with our brand palette of navy, shades of blue and natural, stone colours, with pops of deep reds, black, white and shades of green.

ALC Menswear at the Space+MAN pop-up shop

You can  shop selected items from the ALC Menswear AW18 runway show at Now Showing, the Space’s new concept store in De Waterkant, Cape Town.

ALC Menswear invites guests to celebrate their new pop-up  menswear rail at Now Showing. The event is on from 6pm – 8pm on Thursday 22 February 2018 at 109 Waterkant Street.

There will be ALC product giveaway treats and special offers running throughout the night, personalised styling and shopping services, and the opportunity to meet Amanda Laird Cherry and her team, all within a quirky, intimate setting.

The pop-up shop is open to the public daily, with weekly events happening until end-April 2018.

Simon & Mary x ALC Menswear Shweshwe Hats

ALC Menswear have worked together with Simon and Mary to create a range of Shweshwe caps and bucket hats for AW18. Simon & Mary have a close relationship with the brand, have been wanting to do something for a while, and this season was the perfect timing.

The Simon and Mary x ALC Menswear Shweshwe hats will be available exclusively at Space MAN and The Space and stores nationwide in Winter 2018.

Converse x ALC Menswear Partnership

Converse is a brand that embodies the idea of street culture which is something that inspired ALC Menswear this season.

Since its groundbreaking debut in 1974, there has been no branch of modern style that hasn’t been informed by the One Star shoe. Originally built for the basketball court, its boldness was later adopted and owned by the independents. Constantly reimagined by those on the fringes, it remains unstoppable. Some shoes get lost in history. The One Star shoe bends history toward it.
