Award-wining hotelier appointed as general manager of The Cellars-Hohenort

Capture d’écran 2020-03-24 à 15.49.54The five-star Relais & Châteaux hotel The Cellars-Hohenort, a member of The Liz McGrath Collection, is pleased to announce that Sebastian Berinato has been appointed as the new general manager of the hotel, with effect from February 2020.

The seasoned, award-winning hotelier, who has over 40 years’ experience within the hospitality industry, is ideal for the position – in 2017, the MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa in the Seychelles was named ‘Resort of the Year’ under his stewardship, and he was named ‘General Manager of the Year’ in 2015 while overseeing operations at the Southern Sun Newlands hotel.

Formerly the general manager of The Marine Hotel in Hermanus – and hotel manager at Asara Wine Estate & Hotel before joining The Liz McGrath Collection – Berinato has had a long and distinguished career at hotels of distinction. He holds an American Hotel and Motel Association Diploma, completed at The Carlton Hotel in 1980, and spent the better part of 30 years working for several Southern Sun properties in South Africa. During his tenure, he received ‘Hotel of the Year’ awards in 1995 and 2007 respectively while managing the Crowne Plaza Sunnyside Park hotel in Johannesburg and The Beverly Hills Hotel for Tsogo Sun in Durban. He was head-hunted by The Arabella Sheraton to manage the opening of the Arabella Sheraton in Hermanus in in 2001 (a Starwood Luxury Collection Hotel, now African Pride Arabella Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection).

Berinato has an abiding love for the hospitality industry, despite having entered it quite by chance – he was initially an auditor and applied for a position as such at the Monomatapa Hotel in 1974. His appointment set him on course for an illustrious career in hotel management. “I consider it a real privilege to take up this position at The Cellars-Hohenort, which is renowned for good reason,” he says. “I love interacting with guests and ensuring that they are truly satisfied – it will be an honour to take on this role at another of the excellent hotels in The Liz McGrath Collection.”
