I recently sought treatment from a biokineticist after having the unfortunate experience of dislocating my hip and he suggested I invest in a better chair to alleviate some of the discomfort I was feeling during my work day. I decided to give Herman Miller’s iconic Aeron chair a test run for a few weeks to see if it made any difference. Within two hours of placing my order, there was a buzz at the front door and I was presented with a chair. Just a few hours later, a Herman Miller sales representative arrived and asked me about my personal needs and preferences, and assisted me in adjusting the chair to fit my body – talk about personalised service! My regular desk chair is fairly traditional in design and has a mesh back and hard padded seat. The carbon classic weave seat and back of the Aeron took some getting used to at first but I quickly became accustomed to the way it conformed to the shape of my body. I especially appreciated the setting that allows the chair to move as you do, which made standing up effortless and pain-free. Having used the Aeron for a few weeks, I’m [...]

What sets Herman Miller apart from its competitors in the design and manufacturing industry? Deeply researching on a global basis to understand the trends in our industry and heavily invest in partnering with design talent to produce unique solutions. We are good at telling the future- not just what the market wants but we try to look for innovation in materials and concepts, bringing in things that the market doesn’t know it needs. A brilliant example is the Aeron Chair- the world didn’t know it needed a mesh chair, when we launched it wasn’t recognized as a office chair. Bill Stumpf who we partnered with researched aging, we always try to look for new innovative ideas and designs that will lead the market to a new place and we are always willing to put the money behind making those ideas work. We are also a very people-centered company it’s more than about making money. Prior to joining Herman Miller you worked as an HR professional, what led you to begin your career at Herman Miller? Her name is Joyce Bateman. I was working in the mining industry and the company was taken over by an organization I didn’t wish to [...]

Global design manufacturer Herman Miller, Inc. has unveiled a new Aeron chair that is now available in South Africa exclusively through long-term local distributor All Office. The Aeron chair first launched in 1994 and was unlike any chair the world had ever seen. Instead of a padded throne, designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick did away with foam and fabric to create a true machine for sitting. Uniting human-centred design with Herman Miller’s leadership in innovative technology and materials, Aeron quickly became the best-selling and most recognisable performance chair of all time. With over 7 million sold in 134 countries, the chair is a vital tool for users around the globe and holds a rightful place in popular culture. Herman Miller’s new Aeron retains the distinctive silhouette of the iconic chair, but every component of the design has been updated to raise the bar for performance seating. With the input of original co-designer Don Chadwick, and a dedicated team of scientists, engineers, materials specialists, and researchers who worked on the project for over two years, Herman Miller has enhanced the chair by combining the latest insights in anthropometrics and ergonomics with two decades of advancement in materials, manufacturing, and technology. The [...]
