Nestled in the Cape winelands, Franschhoek boasts sumptuous offerings from local food artisans and manufacturers, with a recent addition – craft beer! Visitors to this famed gourmet region can now enjoy Franschhoek Beer Co’s premium craft beer in the middle of wine country, thanks to the brewery’s new restaurant, Tap | Eat. Ringed by oak trees and green lawns, Tap | Eat lets beer-lovers experience the clean air and dazzling vistas of the mountainous Franschhoek district, while enjoying a brew and a bite. Eating in style while appreciating the outdoors, was among interior design company Inhouse’s goals in the creation of Franschhoek Beer Co’s new foodie destination. Stacking glass doors allow sunlight to flood the interior, as well as bridging the indoor and outdoor seating areas. An assortment of views can be enjoyed – be it the distant mountains, the immediate landscaping or even the restaurant’s detailed interior design. In the construction of Tap | Eat, Inhouse had to extend the former premises of Franschhoek Beer Co, which consisted solely of the brewery. Inhouse Director, Phillip Wyatt notes that the design “needed to tie in with the brewery next-door, but also have its own identity”. Lighting is a key feature [...]

Award-winning design studio, Inhouse, has completed the interior of a privately-owned manor house in Franschhoek in the picturesque Cape Winelands. The home was built from scratch in collaboration with Chris de Hart Architects with the aim of capturing the sweep of a spacious plantation-style country estate, with aesthetic touches inspired by the film Casablanca. The house features large custom-made French doors that open outwards onto courtyards and verandas that complement the landscape. Inside, the house is made up of spacious rooms with high ceilings that display ornate moulding and coffer details. These details are key decorative features and a strategic choice by Inhouse intended to soften the vastness of the space. A large collection of antique furniture was included in the design and Inhouse created an interior scheme that would be sympathetic to the finishing. Aidan Hart of Inhouse says of the finished work, “We are happy to have collaborated on this project and to have overcome the design-related challenges along the way. It’s seldom that designers have the opportunity to work on a project of this stature and sheer scale.” The house’s main living room, which comprises of two sitting areas, features key antique pieces set before an austere [...]

Award-winning design studio, Inhouse, recently created the design concept for Harlief Deli’s newly revamped branch in Gardens Shopping Centre in Cape Town. The overhaul was part of Hartlief’s overall reinvigoration of its branding that included refining the colours of its logo and translating the brand identity into the deli’s built environment. Inhouse’s design involved incorporating colours and materials that added warmth to the deli’s interior, as well as creating additional space for a better customer experience. The studio’s design concept focused on the interior’s layout and finishes, taking into account the types of products and services Hartlief provides. Hartlief is a meat manufacturing company that was established in Windhoek, Namibia in the 1940s and has enjoyed success as a producer of premium meat products for over 70 years. In November 2016, it opened two delis in Cape Town, one in the Gardens Shopping Centre and the other at the High Constantia Shopping Centre. In 2017, the brand enlisted Inhouse to create a new design concept for its branch in Gardens to provide a more appealing shopping experience to its customers. Before the redesign, the deli was limited in size and the store’s layout did not allow customers to move in [...]

Award-winning design studio Inhouse was commissioned by the Berman Bros Group (BBG) to design the interiors of a series of two- and three-bedroom apartments situated in a new luxury development located on St John’s Road in Sea Point, Cape Town. Rather than creating carbon copies and giving all 16 apartments the same design treatment, Inhouse has created two distinct styles to cater for different tastes. There is also a penthouse, the 17th apartment, which will be given its own unique interior. Each of the 16 three- and two-bedroom apartments feature an open-plan living area and bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, but the contrasting interiors of the units create starkly different atmospheres. Eight of the apartments have a modern contemporary aesthetic with a predominantly dark palette, while the other eight apartments boast a classic contemporary direction and a neutral colour palette. This gives potential owners the option to choose the interior they prefer while demonstrating the power of interior design to transform a space. In each of the classic contemporary apartments, marble floors feature throughout the spacious open-plan living area, which comprises living, dining and kitchen zones. A subtle mix of classic and contemporary elements with soft, delicate textures makes the interiors [...]

Infrastructure investment company GAIA commissioned award-winning interior design firm Inhouse Brand Architects to create its new Cape Town office space. Following successful, large-scale projects for notable corporate companies, like Old Mutual, Santam, Sanlam and more, Inhouse was the clear choice based on demonstrated conceptualisation and implementation expertise spanning 15 years in the industry. GAIA’s offices are located in a striking building in the southern suburb of Claremont in Cape Town and was designed by well-known architect Professor Roelof Uytenbogaardt. The building’s façade, made up of concrete and exposed brickwork, exudes an industrial feeling that is cleverly juxtaposed with organic elements, like curved walls and timber beams. Inhouse Director, Phillip Wyatt and team leader, Megan Cloete, steered the interior design and were inspired by both the infrastructure industry and the building itself, which came with curved glass windows and intricate timber-clad ceilings. They opted for an industrial-organic aesthetic, and incorporated GAIA’s corporate colours of black, blue and gold, into the design. Cloete explains: “The building is absolutely beautiful. The aim of our design was to complement the architecture and not compete with it. We were able to achieve this by using neutral tones throughout the space, modern furnishings, as well as raw [...]

Morgenster Wine & Olive Estate has collaborated with renowned Italian chef, Giorgio Nava, to create 95 at Morgenster, a new world-class restaurant that will undoubtedly attract locals and tourists alike. A mere 35 minutes from Cape Town and set in the stunning landscape of Somerset West, the restaurant boasts undeniable Italian flair evident in the carefully selected menu and subtle décor. Estate owner, Giulio Bertrand, approached Nava due to the success of the chef’s celebrated Cape Town restaurant, 95 on Keerom. The original 95 on Keerom combines the finest Italian cuisine with stylish, minimalist interiors, allowing customers to enjoy both food and aesthetics. Having completed the design for 95 on Keerom, as well as all of Nava’s other successful restaurants such as Carne, interior design firm Inhouse Brand Architects was the obvious choice for the much-anticipated 95 at Morgenster. The Inhouse team, led by Creative Director Aidan hart and Senior Designer Annelise Botes, decided to move away from the style precedent set by 95 on Keerom. They decided to establish a brighter, lighter character for the new restaurant in order to complement its idyllic location. The restaurant building sits beside one of the Morgenster estate lakes and enjoys stunning, uninterrupted [...]

Leading design agency, Inhouse Brand Architects was recently called in to re-imagine the Cape Town offices of trailblazing advertising agency, Saatchi & Saatchi. Having previously completed highly successful office refurbishments for other agencies like Ogilvy and 99c, the award-winning Inhouse team was a natural choice for Saatchi & Saatchi, thanks to its experience in changing the traditional structure of the professional environment for the better. Saatchi & Saatchi needed to remodel its Cape Town premises because the Saatchi & Saatchi SA group recently acquired an additional agency, BrandsRock, and as a result, the group’s Cape Town offices located at The Foundry in Green Point needed to expand. Inhouse was briefed to give the space a thorough overhaul that would convey the dynamic creativity for which the agency prides itself. Saatchi & Saatchi’s progressive ethos of “Nothing is Impossible” infused Inhouse team leader, Annelise Botes’ design concept from the start. Bright and bold colours contrast with the more sedate; irregular lines immediately lend an air of unconventionality to the space; and playful pop culture references abound. The ground floor reception area was the focus of the project, needing to instantly signal a contemporary corporate culture that welcomes dialogue and collaboration. The collaborative spirit that underlines the Saatchi & Saatchi brand is consistently referenced through the use [...]

Led by Inhouse Brand Architects’ director, Aidan Hart, the re-design of John Brown Media’s premises aims to increase connectivity among staff members while aligning the physical environment with John Brown’s charged work ethic and creative output. The new space incorporates John Brown’s corporate colour, teal, which is uplifted by vibrant yellow, and expands on the company’s informal bird theme motifs that were in place in the previous offices. A stylish yet lighthearted Scandinavian aesthetic runs throughout. Once past the reception area, the offices open into a shared space that includes an open-plan kitchen with a breakaway dining table and seating. Directly opposite the kitchen and table is a series of three eating pods featuring high-back booth seating in the company’s signature teal. Because of its proximity to the kitchen, the booths have successfully enabled staff to socialise and engage with one another while grabbing a bite to eat. Beyond the kitchen and dining area lies a lounge area or indoor ‘campsite’. The ‘campsite’ is kitted out with faux grass, picnic-like seating, timber plant boxes and canary yellow wooden tree-trunks. Brightly hued lounge seating, a cartoon-covered ‘bed’ and birdcage light fixtures add delightful visual fodder. The nod to the outside world [...]

An iconic French bubbly, GH Mumm boasts a luxurious sensibility that has been translated into a beautiful new branded environment within Seelan Restaurant & Bar at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Created in the finest materials – as befitting the champagne – the self-contained GH Mumm area consists of a striking bar front, counter, DJ deck and arched back display. NightVision’s design solution celebrates GH Mumm’s rich identity yet sympathetically and seamlessly transitions into the rest of the upmarket Seelan Restaurant & Bar interior. Elements of the GH Mumm brand identity – most specifically the packaging design – have been directly translated and reinforced through the use of red, gold and white. Gold finishes were used for the inlaid GH Mumm insignia on the bar front and the laser-cut detailing on the counter-top. The cutout shapes themselves reflect elements of the brand. Red LED strip lighting illuminates the arched back bar with a warm crimson glow, and serves to highlight an exclusive display of GH Mumm bottles of varying sizes. The arched structure mimics the dockside architecture of the V&A Waterfront in a nod to the greater context and the harbour just beyond Seelan’s doors. The structure is rendered [...]

A new set of opulent GH Mumm Outdoor Lounges perfectly complements the glamorous nautical experience to be had at Shimmy Beach Club, an upmarket entertainment destination at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Showcasing charming Catamaran-styled features, the lounges were designed for luxurious summer partying. The GH Mumm lounges were commissioned by Pernod Ricard and created by brand experience experts NightVision, sister company to leading interiors firm Inhouse Brand Architects. Thanks to creative input from Inhouse’s award-winning Creative Director, Aidan Hart, the GH Mumm lounges are more than just easy on the eye, boasting plenty of practical design elements. The outside frames can easily be disassembled and re-assembled – so that the lounges can be moved around quickly and easily – and consist of waterproof aluminum. Reconstructed plastic composite was used to create a sleek faux timber look for the floors with the benefit of being stain and rot resistant – an added bonus when being so close to the sea and the corrosive salt air. The lounge “roof” consists of a stretched canopy, creating a yacht-like look, complemented by high-end yachting fabric used for the upholstery.
