100 Mile garden runs to raise much needed funds for BRAVE Rock Girl NPO during lockdown
The “Non-stop Garden 100-miler Crew” will run 100 miles in their gardens to raise money in support of BRAVE, a local NPO that focuses on leadership skills for young women and girls in Manenberg, and which is currently providing food and other essential goods to these girls and their families during lockdown. The crew comprises a group of friends that are always on the lookout for the next crazy adventure and an opportunity to challenge and test ourselves.
Lee-Ann Persse has competed at two Olympic Games for rowing and cycled across the country from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg to run the Comrades marathon as part of the Unogwaja Challenge. Mike Wessels, better known as Baywatch Ballie, is the current South African Wave-Ski champion. Kevin Sheehan and Mark Sheehan are wannabe Adventure Racers and type II fun professionals. Whilst Christoff Bothma, a new Dad and tax genius, is seriously reconsidering his friend choices.
The one thing they all have in common is a passion for giving back and helping those in need. Says Smith: “Being stuck at home is immensely frustrating for everyone but we are all thankful and needed to find a way to contribute. So each running a 100 miles in our gardens to raise some much needed funding seemed like the most logical thing to do.
None of us have run 100 miles before so it’s certainly going to be interesting (painful), but we’re all excited for the challenge and hoping to raise as much as possible for our charities, because they are the real heroes!! If you can, please donate to support our continued BRAVE Care packages to our Junior Girls and help these big-hearted runners complete 100 miles in their gardens.
