Dogs of the Mother City inspire Chommies’ brand-new collection
Colourful and locally made accessories brand Chommies’ latest range of collars, leashes and harnesses, the Mother City Collection, brings enviable street style to dogs across the world in a way that captures Cape Town’s unique lifestyle.
South Africa’s Mother City boasts cityscapes with surrounding mountains, oceans and forests, among which resident dogs are able to lead a full life immersed in the vibrancy of both the city and nature. To be a Capetonian companion is to explore this multifaceted city, which is one of the most dog-friendly in the world: strutting on the prom, accompanying their human for a flat white (and puppacino) in a city-centre cafe, leaping through the surf on Camps Bay beach and hiking up Lion’s Head are all in a day’s leisure for a Cape Town dog.
The new collection includes the Adjustable Leather Dog Collar, Everyday Leather Dog Leash and Leather Dog Harness. For the first time, Chommies has developed a special Sighthound line dedicated to svelte whippets and greyhounds. For these lean, athletic dogs, the curved shape of the new Adjustable Leather Sighthound Collar has been uniquely designed to fit snugly around the neck to prevent it from slipping off, with extra-soft leather cushioning for added comfort. These collars can be worn with Chommies’ mini Sighthound leashes, which are especially lightweight and available in matching colours.
With the Mother City Collection, Chommies has also extended its offering for cats with a capsule of luxury leather cat collars.
The Mother City Collection comes in five colourways with names inspired by iconic hip hop artists — Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lizzo and Slim Shady — offering pet owners a choice of vivid hues that are quintessentially Chommies.
The popping blue of ‘Blue Snoop’, hot pink of ‘Pink Lizzo’ and rich teal of ‘Green Shady’ are perfect for those seeking stand-out colours, while the warm orange of ‘Cognac West’ and charcoal grey of ‘Grey Z’ suit a more classic aesthetic.
Handcrafted to the highest quality with pride and precision by a team of skilled artisans in the Chommies studio, each of the sophisticated pieces is made from chromium-free, vegetable-tanned South African leather, paired with solid brass fittings and Chommie’s signature black and white rope.
The Mother City Collection is the latest designer venture from a brand whose offering has quickly grown from rope-based accessories into a multifaceted range of accessories for dogs and cats, and the people who love them.
