Running from 21-28 June 2019, the festival has been timed to coincide with the Knysna Oyster Festival for those who would like to indulge in the best both festivals have to offer. As part of the 2019 Plett ARTS Festival programme, there will be seven ‘opening nights’ during the festival at various venues around Plettenberg Bay. The Plettenberg will be hosting the ‘Women of Art’ exhibition in partnership with Gallop Hill Gallery. The show features work by Elize Bezuidenhout, Phulani Liebenberg and Marieke Prinsloo Rowe, and there will be an introduction of the mysterious artist, Olivier. The mystery around Olivier has caused a buzz in the art world. Having been an artist for many years, she never released any of her artwork to the public due to her connection to very influential people in the art industry. The exhibition will be open to the public from 21 – 28 June 2019.. The first official night of the Plett Arts Festival at The Plettenberg will take place on Saturday, 22 June 2019, jointly hosted by Dijonne Du [...]

Spier presents its first Light Art Festival from now until 31 January 2019. Each night, this historic wine farm in Stellenbosch will light up with an array of artworks incorporating light and sound. “Some of the works are whimsical and flitting, ironic; some may be glimpsed at from a distance and in passing, some will require more time and interaction,” curator Jay Pather explains. “These experiences – of walking and pausing, catching a glimpse or settling down to absorb – invite us to be introspective, adventurous and playful in turn.” Star attraction A key work on display is In die sterre geskryf (“Written in the stars”) by Berco Wilsenach, produced in 2009 as part of a body of work called Project for the Blind Astronomer – an artistic investigation into different decoding systems with which our visible night sky can be mapped and explained to a visually impaired audience.
