Directed by Brett Bailey to celebrate the annual grape harvest with an electrifying show Spier Wine Farm will host a spectacular evening to celebrate the annual grape harvest on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March 2020. Featuring some of the Cape’s top singing, music and dance talents, the family-friendly Spier Harvest of the Arts will take place on the lawns of the Spier Werf at the historic Stellenbosch farm from the late afternoon into the evening. Arrive from 16:00 to take part in fun harvest activities such as barrel rolling, grape-stomping and potato sack races. At 19:00, drums call you to gather in the harvest kraal, where the performance will take place. Internationally acclaimed theatre director Brett Bailey, choreographer Natalie Fisher and musical director Daniel Eppel, have collaborated to create a swirling, ecstatic ceremonial performance of thanksgiving for the rich harvests of 2020. The work features renowned vocalists Ernestine Deane (formerly of Moodphase5ive), the explosive Mapumba Cilombo, and the bewitching Ann Jangle, joined in song by Spier’s very own choir. A band of Cape Town’s top tier musicians, a host of percussionists, and whirling dancers set the night aflame as the autumn leaves fall. A night of magic not to [...]

The eagerly awaited Matador Network’s ‘25 most spectacular hotels in the world: 2020’ list includes Singita Lebombo Lodge, in the Kruger National Park, in its top 5 selection. The best hotels and lodges from around the world are highlighted in the list, released late in January 2020 – yet another credit to both Singita and Cécile & Boyd’s already illustrious reputations. Designed in collaboration with GAPP Architects, Lebombo reflects the spectacular landscape from which it draws its inspiration. Spectacular is certainly the way to describe this luxury destination in the heart of the Kruger, overlooking the N’wanetsi River. Guests are transported into a bushveld world of dramatic landscapes home to high concentrations of iconic wildlife. Abundant prey draws many big cats to the area, including large prides of lion. Often referred to as “Lebombo: Land of Lions” after the Lebombo mountain ridge, it is one of the best places to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat. Yet the award-winning accommodation, where the contemporary décor is a standout feature, is an added attraction that distinguishes Lebombo from a plethora of safari options. The Cécile & Boyd interiors are something that Matador specifically points out, stating that: “While many luxury safari [...]

Each year as part of the larger festival and conference programme, Design Indaba showcases the country’s top young Emerging Creatives, supported by the Department of Arts and Culture. With 50 finalists chosen from around the country, spanning a range of disciplines – from fashion and furniture, to art and architecture, branding and product design – Emerging Creatives is a launch platform for future local design stars. “We believe in the creative potential and excellence that our country has to offer. We are honoured to continue being a part of the Emerging Creatives programme in 2019,” says Masana Chikeka of the Department of Arts & Culture. The programme was established in 2005 out of a strong belief in the importance of nurturing new creative talent and minimising the barriers to entry for young entrepreneurs. In the last 14 years, Emerging Creatives has helped to launch the careers of numerous celebrated local designers including Laduma Ngxokolo of MaXhosa by Laduma and renowned ceramicist Andile Dyalvane, and more recently fashion designer Rich Mnisi, multi-disciplinary artist Atang Tshikare and Kim and Natalie Ellis from The Joinery. “It really is a great opportunity to gain experience, exposure, prospective clients and to meet fellow creatives who are at a similar stage in their careers,” says artist, [...]
