If you have ever wondered who the creator is behind the Carrol Boyes wine collection, Hendrik Snyman can be found passionately creating and developing the range for the wine industry and its wine lovers. Carrol Boyes Wines is the joint venture of Carrol Boyes, whose iconic style graces the labels of these wines, and her brother John Boyes with his business partner Neels Barnardt, both of Stellenbosch-based Barnardt Boyes Wines. Resident winemaker is Hendrik Snyman, a widely acclaimed winemaker whose awards lay testimony to his dedication and expertise. With a number of industry accolades under his belt, Snyman worked internationally in top wine-making destinations, including Europe, the US and New Zealand. He joined Barnardt Boyes in 2013 and has since led production of Carrol Boyes’ wine portfolio, winning Best MCC at the 2015 Michelangelo Wine Awards for the Carrol Boyes Limited Edition Pinot Noir Chardonnay 2011 Méthode Cap Classique. Snyman’s award-winning career was preceded by his training in viticulture and oenology at the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute in the Western Cape. Before winemaking, Snyman had wished to pursue architecture; given his penchant for agriculture he believed his creativity would be served better in winemaking and upon graduating in 2005 he [...]

If you’re looking for the perfect winter fireside wine, look no further than Carrol Boyes Wines 2016 Sketchbook Merlot, an ideal winter warmer partner. It’s a complex red wine that boasts a variety of light notes with aromatic layers and forms part of the 2016 Sketchbook collection, a critically acclaimed, limited-edition portfolio of wines from Carrol Boyes Wines. Harvest of the grapes used for the Sketchbook Merlot takes place in the early hours of the morning, and the 14-year-old vineyard yields on average eight tons per hectare. The Merlot grapes from the high-density vineyard are hand-picked with the six-wire trellising system being employed, resulting in a meticulous viticulture practice, including bunch-halving and intense canopy management. Only the finest hand-selected grapes are fermented in French oak casks that accommodate 300 litres each. The result is a wine with deep structure and firmer, finer-grained tannins, ideal for cellaring purposes. The Carrol Boyes Wines 2016 Sketchbook Merlot is a rich and concentrated wine with aromatic layers that include coconut, clove, black cherry, chocolate and cinnamon. Cherry and plum elements carry a long finish, with light notes of oak toffee that can be paired with charcuterie platters or a hearty pasta dish. A light Merlot [...]

Redolent of tropical flavours, the 2016 Sketchbook Rosé from Carrol Boyes Wines is made using only the finest Cinsaut grapes, and is part of a collection of critically acclaimed, limited-edition vintages. In the making of the 2016 Sketchbook Rosé, grapes grown in the Swartland region are handpicked at 22° Balling. Yield is low in these parts, where the land is dry and the vineyards are unirrigated. Picked grapes are thus of especially good quality. After fermentation, each batch goes through a selection process from which only the best go into the finished rosé. Made from 100% Cinsaut grapes, the 2016 Sketchbook Rosé is a melange of flavours, including cherries, strawberries and raspberries, and hints of apple and apricot. Its fruitiness and mild acidity produce a distinct flavour that caresses and lingers on the palate. This salmon-pink wine can be enjoyed on its own, but goes equally well with sushi. About Carrol Boyes Wines Carrol Boyes, the well-known South African artist and designer, has partnered with her brother, farmer and financer John Boyes and partner Neels Barnardt of Barnardt Boyes, to create a unique range of limited-edition premier wines under the Carrol Boyes Wines banner. The selection is critically acclaimed and [...]
