The platform has become the definitive meeting point of supply and demand, positioning Africa as a global design force while actively driving the commercialisation of creative enterprises. This transformation extends beyond commerce – it’s reshaping industry standards through innovation and sustainability while allowing exhibitors to simultaneously connect with trade professionals and end consumers, maximising their market reach. This evolution has established Decorex Africa as the continent’s most powerful creative-economy catalyst, with Johannesburg’s showcase alone driving over R200 million in deals annually, about 75% of which are concluded by returning trade visitors.
With so much to see and all of it unmissable, we asked Decorex Africa’s Executive Creative Director Bielle Bellingham where to begin when planning a trip to Decorex Cape Town, running from 6-9 June at the CTICC. She’s shared her tips for what’s new and now below, but her best advice is to come back again and again to take in everything – especially because there are different live talks and demos each day. This year’s event, together with show partners Plascon, Samsung, Lexus and the City of Cape Town, is set to be a knockout. A day ticket gives you access to a slew of exciting installations and features alongside displays by more than 230 of the most dynamic and creative companies on the continent. For architecture and interior design professionals, free online pre-registration grants a four-day multi-pass. Download the dedicated new Decorex app from the App Store or Google Play Store to help you plan your Decorex experience, making it smoother and more efficient. For now, here’s Bellingham’s quick inside track: 3D-printing for the nation In a bid to democratise 3D-printing, an extra-large industrial 3-D printer from Amnova will be extruding objects right before your eyes.
A bright yellow face smiling at you from your phone, a red heart beating between messages in a chat, a thumbs up that reaffirms. The ideograms our society calls ‘emojis’ have become a new language in and of themselves, harbouring both overt and secret meanings as they represent the physical in digital form. Emojis are so deeply embedded in our daily communications that they have found their way into visual culture, from art to movies to marketing to stuffed toys. An exciting new concept at Decorex Cape Town (6-9 June, CTICC), will feature room sets uniquely curated to bring emojis to life in physical form. Visitors to the show can witness the way digital meets physical as prominent local designers take inspiration from the vibrant and playful world of emojis. ‘While the inspiration is playful, the execution will be sophisticated and refined. The designs will not be overtly themed but will subtly incorporate emoji elements, showcasing the designers’ creativity and expertise,’ explains Bielle Bellingham, Executive Creative Director of Decorex Africa. The emoji display aims to highlight how ‘phygital’ worlds are increasingly intertwined. The goal is to demonstrate inspiration can be taken from [...]

Hot on the heels of a collaboration with global brand Tom Dixon at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair, leading Spanish surfacing brand Cosentino is bringing its superb surfaces to Decorex Cape Town between 22 and 25 June 2023, with a stand spotlighting two South African furniture designers’ utilisation of Cosentino products. Returning to Decorex for the second year following the successful relaunch of the country’s premier décor, design and lifestyle show, the global brand will present collaborations with renowned local designers Haldane Martin and MŪVEK as part of its Atelier Cosentino stand, which will be located near the Hall 3 Entrance of the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The eponymous brand of premium outdoor furniture of designer and director Haldane Martin is known for its strong visual identity and South African character. Debuting at Decorex Cape Town is Haldane Martin’s brand-new Dombolo outdoor table, a voluptuous piece of furniture named after the Xhosa word for dumplings. Dombolo is topped with Cosentino’s Dekton Umber, from the Kraftizen Collection, a durable engineered stone with a hand-plastered stucco surface effect. This textured surface, paired with oversized table legs, results in an appealingly organic shape perfect for outdoor areas. Credit: Haldane Martin Cape Town-based [...]

Decorex Africa Reimagined and its organiser RX Africa are thrilled to announce a stellar line-up of partners for 2022. This year’s upcoming physical event in Cape Town is set for the CTICC from 16-19 June 2022. Joburgers will be able to explore the event in a new venue, when it takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 28-31 July 2022. Leading international brands have been quick to recognise Decorex Africa’s intelligent move to reimagine itself in the post-pandemic arena, and have moved to align themselves with the two shows. These events have been re-conceived as beacons of thought leadership and commerce-generators for the industry. Decorex Cape Town and Joburg will both run with top-tier partners at the helm. The reimagined shows now have both physical and digital – or “phygital” – dimensions. Global powerhouse Samsung, which has been partnering with Decorex Africa over the last two years to promote its lifestyle and technology products, is the first to have taken up this prestigious partnership. Samsung will mount its own display of the latest products for the home, which will include a stimulating presentation of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) that will both titillate adventurous minds and educate the [...]

This year, we present the idea of a futuristic vehicle garage which encapsulates an environment of luxury and modern interior design, conceptualised by international award-winning designer – Donald Nxumalo. And if that doesn’t electrify your interest…There’s a conceptual culinary exhibition by Studio H, live DJs playing at the Best Bar in the City, multiple foodie pop-ups within the country’s most significant pop-up of all, and a cooking theatre where star chefs show the flavour power of their menus to come. It’s not merely at the forefront, it’s the next wave. And if you’ve started to think: “This doesn’t sound like Decorex Cape Town!” then you’re beginning to understand the extent to which Decorex Africa has been reimagined! All this striking newness is combined with the decor and design solutions of tomorrow. Don’t just envision a living and entirely shoppable apartment, come and experience it at the show. It’ll be there, alongside key features showing what’s next, a Summit of African changemakers, and so, so, so much more, that you’re likely to need a few days to take it all in.
The foodie focus at Decorex Cape Town includes an interactive Jar Exchange for Ladles of Love, a restaurant inspired by African beadwork, live DJs at the Best Bar in the City, and a substantial “menu” of pop-up flavours and experiences. Tune your tastebuds at the CTICC, from 16-19 June 2022. FOOD XX JAR EXCHANGE Visit this interactive stand to participate in a Jar Swop initiative to donate preserved foods to Ladles of Love. Swop your full jar, and your story, for an empty jar to keep paying it forward. This concept comes from the “kitchen” of FOOD XX, a platform dedicated to women in food. Consisting of half the world, women have the collective power to affect stock markets, policies, corporate and creative industries, their own lives, and the lives of the women around them. FOOD XX identified the need for a safe space for women in food to build networks, celebrate and support one another, and have much-needed conversations to find solutions together. FOOD XX is dedicated to empowering and celebrating women and the LGBTQIA+ community in the food and drinks industry.
The Chef’s Studio is a unique concept space located in the heart of Cape Town. The venue hosts interactive dining experiences and masterclasses for people who are as excited about what goes into creating a beautiful dish, as they are about eating it. The up-to-the-minute space was recently revamped by interior designer Monya Eastman of Stokperd. The custom-built workstations feature slick yet hard-working surfaces from Caesarstone, are equipped with state-of-the-art cooking technology and feature professional cookware from Scanpan. It’s a professional kitchen down to the last chef’s knife, but it’s also a stylish, contemporary environment that epitomises the notion of “fine casual”. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation, either at home or for a client, it is the ideal space to test top-notch equipment and witness a working professional kitchen that has been styled to make people feel like they’re in a wonderfully appointed home, designed with food lovers in mind. For this reason, the venue is part of the Cape Town Design Trail, conceptualised by Decorex Africa. “Stokperd has balanced the need for high functionality with a high-end interior. This is a kitchen space that works, and works hard, but it is also one that we just love to work [...]

It’s high time to explore the Mother City’s world-renowned and ever-dynamic creative community! Design is putting its best foot forward this June and inviting you to step out on the inaugural Cape Town Design Trail from 1-30 June 2021. Over 100 participating designers, studios and brands will bring the entire month to life with a stimulating array of launches, exhibitions, presentations, talks and displays. The new trail gives participants one-on-one access to incredible showrooms and private maker spaces while raising the bar for the industry and involving the city as a whole. Not-to-be-missed, the trail is presented by the Decorex Africa portfolio and is the first of its kind for the city. The array of stimulating sights and sounds allows Cape Town to cement its reputation as a creative capital, and a former World Design Capital. Cape Town is also the first city in Africa to be named a UNESCO City of Design – and the accolade is rightly deserved when you look at the exceptional calibre of its creative citizens. To help you make sense of the massive variety and number of participants, the trail has been divided into a series of curated routes, each with its own theme. For example, if you are interested [...]
