It’s that time of the year again! The amazing La Capra Goat Run is a much-loved charity event that celebrates the sounds, sights and tastes of Paarl and the spirit of La Capra! The annual run is presented by Asics and will take place at Fairview Wine and Cheese in Paarl from 07h30 onwards on Saturday, 9 September 2017. September marks the first day of spring. On the farm, our goat kids are born, our vines have their first buds open and it also marks time for the Goat Run, a celebration of people from all walks of life to get into gear and give back to raise money to support local charities. The event is a trail running favourite in the winelands and includes a 5km fun walk/run as well as an 8km, 15km and 28km trail run for the more adventurous. The 5km track will also be open to all friends of The Daniel and Friends Fund, http://danielandfriends.com/daniel/ . There will be a buggy- and wheelchair-friendly meander route for mums and toddlers taking part in the 5km fun walk/run, which takes walkers through the picturesque countryside, past the grazing cattle and sheep. There will be plenty of kids [...]

Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate in Paarl will host its fourth annual Charity Dinner on 27 October 2017 at its restaurant, The Goatshed. After battling cancer for many years and realising what a true privilege it is to have private health care, Co-Owner Shannon Riley of The Goatshed wanted to help those in a less fortunate position by hosting a charity event. This year’s event will be in aid of The Athlone House of Strength, a shelter that assists abused women and children. Nik Rabinowitz, one of the country’s leading comedians, will be the MC for the evening. Tickets include a hearty four-course meal prepared by the Goatshed’s much-loved chef, SJ Nel and newly appointed chef, Heila van Zyl, as well as beautifully paired Fairview wines to complement each dish. Fairview’s own farm fresh, free range meat and cheese will feature on the menu. Don’t miss out on this very special event. Seating is limited, so book now and help make a difference in someone’s life. Tickets cost R650 per person and can be purchased at www.fairview-events.co.za. Should you wish to book overnight accommodation, Fairview recommends the following neighbouring farms: Belair: www.belair.co.za/belairWP Email: info@belair.co.za Diamant Estate: www.diamantestate.com Email: info@diamantestate.com For more [...]

The Goatshed restaurant at Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate in Paarl is hosting another annual series of its famous winter evenings. After last year’s sold-out events, the hearty food-and-wine dinners are back by demand. From the beginning of June to the end of September 2017, the Goatshed – which is usually a day venue – will be open on seven selected evenings and will serve a three-course paired menu. Co-owner of the country-style eatery, Shannon Riley plays host while resident chef, SJ Nel serves up well-loved Fairview classics alongside themed dinners that are inspired by a world of cultures and tastes. Fairview is renowned for its award-winning selection of artisanal cheeses and a broad range of handcrafted, star-quality wines, and these will once again be a staple feature of the winter evenings. Under floor heating, wood fires and soul-warming wines will melt the cold Cape Town winter, allowing guests to fully enjoy the exceptional quality of Fairview’s fresh farm produce. In addition to cheese and wine, Fairview produces its own free-range lamb, beef and pork, farm butter, fresh artisanal loaves and pastries that are baked daily, a range of olives, preserves, relishes, spreads and cordials. Each winter evening comes with [...]

The 2017 National Wine Challenge winners were announced on 25 April 2017 at a gala event, where Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate in Paarl was named a Vineyard Consistency Award winner, garnering over 10 top accolades this year. In addition, Fairview took joint second place overall across the entire spectrum of categories and wines. Speaking of Fairview’s outstanding achievement, the CEO of The National Wine Challenge competition, Robin von Holdt comments: “We don’t grant an overall award to a vineyard as best performer. But if we did, Fairview would probably crack that this year, too. Altogether this can only be described as a stunning set of results across the board!” The National Wine Challenge is in its seventh successful year and each year the judges’ task gets more and more difficult. The selection process is thorough and rigorous as greater numbers of fine wine entries intensify pressure for the limited victory spots. Each and every wine is objectively and independently assessed with great care and professional diligence. Three Fairview wines each achieved a double acknowledgement, winning both Top 100 and Double Platinum awards. These three wines, each completely different in style, are the Fairview Eenzaamheid Shiraz, Fairview Extraño and Fairview La [...]

Fairview once again made the South African cheese industry proud with its achievements at the recent World Cheese Awards, held in San Sebastián in Northern Spain, late in 2016. Fairview took home three prestigious international awards for its high-quality artisanal cheese making it a leader in the local and global cheese industry. Now in its 29th year, the World Cheese Awards is the world’s largest cheese competition. The awards saw 3 021 different cheeses being judged by over 260 cheese connoisseurs from every corner of the globe, including cheesemakers, technical experts, buyers, retailers and food writers. Judges awarded gold, silver or bronze ratings and looked at the rind and body of the cheese, its colour, texture, consistency and most importantly, its taste. Fairview’s Chevre Roue, a robust goat’s milk cheese, excelled at the competition and was awarded a gold rating. Fairview’s Botham’s Cremezola Blue, a creamy, gorgonzola-style cheese, walked away with an impressive silver rating while Fairview’s Saint Louis, a white mould cheese made from Jersey milk, received a deserved bronze rating. “We are extremely proud to have been recognised internationally and are pleased to be able to offer our loyal South African customers an award-winning range of cheeses,” says [...]

With a lineage of great entrepreneurs, innovators and winemakers, it’s no wonder that Fairview constantly finds itself at the forefront of the wine and cheese industry. Now, 35 years after its famous Goat Tower was first built, this is still the case, with the introduction of a new landmark attraction – South Africa’s first skywalk and activity playpark for goats. “They constantly innovate every single aspect of the customer experience, which has led to their success,” says international wine tourism consultant, Peter McAtamney, an international guest speaker at the recent The Business of Wine and Food Tourism Conference held in Cape Town in November 2016. McAtamney, founder of Wine Business Solutions, an Australian firm that provides performance improvement solutions to the wine industry, ranks Fairview as the leading visitor experience in the world: “In my experience and from the numbers we see through benchmarking of wineries across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States, there is no more commercially successful cellar door than Fairview.” McAtamney’s statement is supported by Fairtrade-accredited wines that have pioneered new varieties in South Africa, exceptional cheese (Fairview recently received a prestigious gold rating for its Chèvre Roue Goats Milk Cheese at the 2016 [...]

The La Capra Goat Run, an annual favourite from Fairview, takes place this year on Saturday 15 October 2016. This trail run begins and ends at the renowned Fairview Wine Farm in Paarl and is held in aid of numerous charities, including Drakenstein Hospice, Boland Autism, Sunfield Home, Wellington Lions Club, Paarl Mountain Reserve, and The Sunflower Fund. Trail runners can expect a real treat of a route, climbing out from vineyards onto the fynbos slopes and upper areas of the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve. For the more fun-minded, family-oriented groups, there’s also a short Fun Walk that’s free for kiddies. The event caters for all levels of trail runners. There are the entry level 5km and 8km routes, and for the more adventurous ‘goat runners’, the challenging 15km and 28km ‘extreme’ options, which include summiting the striking Paarl Rock, the second largest granite outcrop in the world (after Uluru in Australia). Ascending the ‘Pearl’ is a memorable experience, as you feel so small, trickling over its vast slope. The panoramic view from the top is astounding, with Table Mountain and the sea in the West and the Boland Mountains in the East. The diversity in the ‘extreme’ [...]
