For Cape Town artist Selvin November, flowers are a beautiful symbol of nature, each with a unique personality that he works to capture in his paintings. His latest exhibition, Emancipate The African Flower 2 – presented by House Union Block (HUB) at the Sisonke Gallery at the Cape Heritage Hotel from 7 December 2023 until 28 January 2024 – is an exploration of the personal and cultural symbolism of the hibiscus flower, and its deep connection with slavery and the African diaspora. November was awarded a three-month residency on Robben Island at the start of his career, and has since participated in numerous exhibitions across the country. Diary details Title: Emancipate The African Flower 2 Dates: 7 December 2023 – 28 January 2024 Times: Monday-Saturday 09h00-22h00 Venue: Sisonke Gallery, 90 Bree Street, Cape Town For more information follow @sisonke.gallery and @house_union_block on Instagram.
