Rising stars Velile Soha, Sifiso Temba, Tanja Truscott and Simon Venter are the four artists selected for the 2022 Nando’s Creative Exchange. A selection of their work will be on show at the Association for Visual Arts (AVA) Gallery in Cape Town from 01 December 2022 to 12 January 2023. The Nando’s Creative Exchange was established in 2011 to recognise emerging Southern African fine artists who demonstrate exceptional ability. Participants are nominated by the Spier Arts Trust, which administers the Nando’s Creative Exchange as an artist career-development opportunity. Participants such as Soha, Temba, Truscott and Venter are encouraged to create a comprehensive body of work for a group exhibition. An experienced mentor provides curatorial and professional presentation advice to the artists while they are working towards the exhibition, to enable future independence in approaching galleries professionally and to plan successful art exhibitions. For the past five years, Nando’s and the Spier Arts Trust have partnered with AVA Gallery – the oldest not-for-profit gallery in Cape Town – to meet this artist career-developmental objective. For more information visit https://spierartstrust.co.za/ and https://nandoscreativity.co.za/trending-in-art/ DIARY DETAILS Show Title: Nando’s Creative Exchange (NCX) Venue: Association for Visual Arts Gallery, 35 Church Street, Cape Town [...]

House Union Block (HUB) brings a collection of contemporary art to Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West as part of the Solo Studios weekend taking place in the Riebeek Valley from 26-28 August 2022. The work on show comprise painting and sculptural works sourced directly from artist studios across South Africa, a selection of Creative Blocks and Guerrilla Mosaic Bombs commissioned by HUB. HUB is one of the invited guest exhibitors of this year’s Solo Studios and the event “is proud to be associated with this year’s featured partners and contributors providing for some stimulating variation to the visual art on display.” In the past, Solo Studios has served to highlight the work of talented local artists residing in the Riebeek Valley; this year’s event enhances and extends the programming in an exciting new direction. The two separate HUB exhibitions are both curated by HUB’s Tamlin Blake, a curator and artist residing in the Riebeek valley herself, and taking part as a studio artist on show that weekend. The HUB exhibition venues can be found in the Riebeek Valley Museum in Riebeek Kasteel and at Ruby Rose Country House in Riebeek West, which is a few minutes’ drive apart.
June 2021 will mark the official launch of Clout SA, a purpose-first enterprise, creative agency, and business-to-business (B2B) market-maker for South African design, which states among its goals the promotion of South Africa’s creativity, craftsmanship, heritage, and creating opportunities for collaboration between designers and makers. While many members of the public will be finding out about Clout SA for the first time, the agency’s team has been hard at work building up to this moment for nearly seven years. Much of that work was done on Clout SA’s founding project, the Nando’s Design Programme and eventually, the Nando’s Portal to Africa, an online shopping platform for designer furniture that has facilitated more than R60 million worth of sales across 20,900 products since it was launched in 2018, making it one of the country’s largest exporters of South African design. There are approximately 1 200 Nando’s restaurants located across the globe from Washington DC to Dhaka, and each space showcases bold, bespoke furniture items which are procured through the Portal to Africa. As part of the Nando’s Design Programme, Clout SA has developed and facilitated one of South Africa’s top biennial design competitions, the Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search, which [...]
