A new year often sparks a desire to reset our surroundings. But in 2026, that refresh goes deeper than aesthetics. Interior design is moving away from perfection and polish, and toward homes that feel real, layered and emotionally resonant. Across global and local design conversations, a clear mood is emerging: in a world increasingly shaped by AI, automation and digital speed, people are craving interiors that feel human. Spaces that comfort, cocoon and inspire. Spaces shaped by texture, craft, warmth and personal expression. As South Africa’s most trusted paint authority, Plascon has been closely tracking these shifts not to dictate how homes should look, but to help homeowners translate emerging interior design trends into lived-in, meaningful spaces through colour. ‘Every year brings new rhythms in the world of interiors, and 2026 is no exception,’ says Leslie Frank, Head of Marketing at Plascon South Africa. ‘What’s clear this year is a move toward homes that feel more intentional, more tactile and more human. Spaces designed around how people actually live, not just how they look. The defining interior design trends of 2026 Several key interior design directions stand out for 2026. 1. Lived-in luxury: Homes with heart, history and humanity Perfection [...]

Online ecosystems are in a constant state of evolution. Algorithms shift, social media platforms rise and fade, and artificial intelligence reveals new ways to engage in cyberspace. As digital culture progresses, the lines between virtual and physical environments blur, creating a reality that is uniquely its own. In response, Plascon has unveiled a dynamic colour family, titled Bright, that forms part of its hybridity-themed 2025 colour forecast. The Bright colour family stands out by exploring the intersection of similar contrasting realities, showcasing a dazzling mix of soft neons and vivid fluorescents that reflect today’s zeitgeist. The colours draw inspiration from the Dopamine Decor trend, a playful and personalised approach to interior styling that boosts mood. Psychological research shows that light and bright tones can evoke positive chemical responses in our brains, enhancing the production of dopamine: a neurotransmitter crucial for reward, motivation, and regulating mood and movement. Yellow, often linked to happiness, is exemplified by Crazy Daisy (Y4-A1-1). This colour, reminiscent of emojis or egg yolks, brings a lighthearted touch, much like the electric orange of Good Day Sunshine (O6-A1-1) and the zesty green of Stylish Lime (Y7-A1-1). Leveraging the power of contrasts, this colour family includes five pared-back tones [...]

The new mural at Kansai Plascon’s head office in Krugersdorp is more than just a visual spectacle: it’s a celebration of South Africa in all its colours, a picture of the indomitable spirit of our nation. When brainstorming for the design of the mural, the artist, Kevin Ngwenya – known professionally as Kev Seven – narrowed down key historical events, icons and figures in our country’s story on which to focus: inspiring liberation heroes, the Big 5, sporting personalities and memorable moments, and cultural diversity. The graffiti and mural artist, whose commission by Plascon was to paint a mural that reflects the story of South Africa using Plascon’s own range of paints, took as his inspiration a quote by Herbert Evans, the famous founder of Plascon who introduced the first-ever ‘ready-mixed’ colour paints in South Africa in the early 20th century, who once said that people could find ‘inspiration and innovation that is beyond colour’. For Ngwenya, this quote encapsulates both the Plascon brand and the ethos of South Africa. The dazzling mural spans the whole-ground floor wall of the Kansai Plascon head office entrance in Factoria, Krugersdorp, welcoming visitors with a burst of iconic faces, flora and fauna, and proudly South African colours – Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko and Mahatma Gandhi; [...]
