Spend a long weekend on one of Stellenbosch’s oldest wine farms, and enjoy an abundance of activities with your family. From delicious farm-style meals to an Easter Egg hunt to encounters with eagles and awe-inspiring artworks, every minute is play time for children. Here’s ten things to do with kids at Spier this Easter: 1. Inspired by the delicious bounty of the sea and the richness of Cape Malay culinary heritage, this feast on Good Friday, Friday 19 April features braaied snoek, mouthwatering mussels, seasonal salads and so much more. Click here to book: https://www.spier.co.za/events 2. See the dancing owls at the Eagle Encounters, a bird-of-prey rehabilitation and conservation project, which also hosts daily flying displays in which you can participate. 3. While the adults indulge in a chocolate and wine tasting of our Creative Block blends, the little ones can enjoy a grape juice tasting and learn more about our farm with an educational colouring sheet. 4. Farmer Angus’s pasture-reared favourites from the fire take centre stage at the Easter Spit Braai Dinner Buffet on Saturday, 20 April 2019: think fire-roasted pork belly, chicken kebabs, tender lamb, and more. Not to be outdone, though, are the deliciously inventive seasonal salads and freshly baked bread and cinnamon buns. Come hungry! [...]

“We have been thinking about these new animals for a couple of years.” Says Jay Osgerby about Barber & Osgerby’s latest children’s designs for The Rug Company. “The animals in question need to have sufficient characteristics to make them distinctive. It is a challenge to make the man-eating creatures – just real enough without scaring the living daylights out of the household.” Comprising four new animal designs, Peacock, Croco, Tiger and Frog, the collection is designed to be loved as much by parents as their children. The cheerful designs are versatile and enduring, seeing its owner through the years from childhood into adulthood. As to be expected of the designers of the Olympic Torch, the rugs have been painstakingly designed, with careful attention to every detail and shade of colour. “The compositions are very important to us. We have often cropped the creature to give a sense of movement or to add to the humour of the piece.” Each rug has been woven by hand using traditional techniques for which The Rug Company is renowned. These age-old methods of production ensure that the rug will last a lifetime or longer. Frog will be available from the end [...]
