		<description><![CDATA[September is International Month for Deaf People and to raise awareness around the challenges and solutions for the hard-of-hearing, Park Inn by Radisson Cape Town Newlands introduced #Signtember in 2016, a campaign dedicated to pushing the hard-of-hearing agenda whilst educating and destigmatising society’s perceived limitations of the Deaf. More than 5% of the population has some form of hearing loss, Park Inn by Radisson Cape Town Newlands has recognised this and resultantly partnered with the Deaf Federation of South Africa (Deaf SA), dedicating 19% of its staff compliment to hard-of-hearing crew members. Currently, 51% of Park Inn by Radisson Cape Town Newlands is owned by Deaf SA, which acts as the national research, information and community action organisation on behalf of approximately 600 000 Deaf South Africans. “Our strategy is to get more companies and in various sectors to employ Deaf people,” says Western Cape Deaf SA Director Jabaar Cassiem Mohamed. “If this can be done in Cape Town, it can be replicated in the rest of the country.” The #Signtember campaign has not only empowered the hard-of-hearing but has also educated their hearing staff in sign language and hotel guests too. “It is important to us to support Deaf [...]]]></description>
