Eye Bar opened in late December 2020 and is now serving patrons in its ground-floor bar, lounge, restaurant and open-air terrace, as well as on its scintillating pool deck that affords epic views over Green Point and the ocean. The newly introduced sushi menu at Eye Bar has been conceptualised by the popular sushi go-to known as Maaya. A modern and vibrant Japanese/Peruvian restaurant and venue, Maaya is located on Loop St in Cape Town and has become known for serving unexpected yet delicious fusion-style sushi. Maaya and Eye Bar have collaborated to bring you the freshest of flavours, whether it’s your favorite standard roll or an exciting new combination. In consultation with Maaya’s team, Eye Bar’s new contemporary sushi menu was finalized by the hotel’s Culinary Operations Manager, chef Johann Breedt. Introduced recently on 20 January 2021, the new sushi menu includes all-time favorites such as salmon and tuna rolls with avocado and Japanese mayonnaise, and the ever-classic panko prawn rolls. But from there it gets much more exciting. If you have a taste for adventure, explore a [...]

After the traditional festive season splurge, household budgets are usually stretched come January – hence the nickname “Janu-worry”. The first month of the year always welcomes measures that offer relief from those all-too-tight purse strings, especially with February’s Valentine’s Day plans on the horizon. In addition to those typical start-of-a-new-year woes, January and February 2021 will be spent with lockdown level 3 restrictions in place until 15 February 2021 (and possibly beyond), which came into play from late December 2020. This means that we can’t enjoy the same recreational activities that we usually would, because all public beaches, pools and parks are closed and a curfew is enforced. This, combined with pandemic stress and concern for loved ones, means that many of us are still in need of a holiday! Good news, is that it’s still possible. If you’d like your partner to feel like the fairy king or queen from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, then treat your Oberon or Titiania to a budget-busting staycation at Cape Town’s vibiest new Atlantic seaboard hotel. Vïb Cape Town is welcoming guests with a dinner-bed-and-breakfast special offer that’s so incredible you’d be forgiven for thinking you were dreaming! The “Midsummer Night’s Vïb” lets [...]

Over 80 portraits form the opening show at the new Jaffer Modern art gallery in Green Point, Cape Town and these proverbial “windows into the soul” are set to captivate viewers. Entitled Gathering: A Community of Portraits the exhibition showcases the many faces of Africa. “This first exhibition aims to showcase a diverse outpouring of creativity,” says the show’s guest curator Margie Murgatroyd of Africa Nova. After seeking out artists from across the continent and looking beyond, to the African diaspora, Murgatroyd has selected works hailing from as far afield Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and right across South Africa, from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng. As a result, the new show makes for fascinating viewing. The works on the show are wide-ranging, but are linked by a central theme. According to gallery director Shafina Jaffer: “The theme refers to the deep human need to congregate and the desire to commune. It is about our diversity, cultures and common humanity.” Gathering opened to the public on 21 December 2020 and runs until 28 February 2021. Expect to see anything from painting to photography to sculpture. The artists featured include South African Masters such as Cecile Skotnes and Peter Clarke and contemporary artists such as [...]
