		<description><![CDATA[On 11 April 2018, the Curatorial Lab at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) was officially opened by Kees van Baar, Human Rights Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. A new exhibition by Banele Khoza was on view to celebrate the opening of the space. Situated on Level 1 at Zeitz MOCAA, the Curatorial Lab is a multi-disciplinary space for experimental curatorial practice and research that explores new curatorial methodologies, subversive curatorial approaches, non-prescriptive practices, and under-represented topics and issues. The Curatorial Lab initiates lectures, forums, panel discussions, screenings, performances and houses a library, a workshop/viewing room and four galleries. The current focus of the Curatorial Lab is LGBTQI+ issues and rights. It is a dedicated space in the museum to guarantee that the voices and experiences of this community are heard. This focus on LGBTQI+ issues and rights is generously supported by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The South African Constitution in theory protects the rights of all, including an individual’s right to sexual choices. 		<description><![CDATA[The Design Indaba has played an instrumental role in the establishment of Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, located in the Silo District in the V&#38;A Waterfront, Cape Town. Design Indaba founder Ravi Naidoo provided the catalyst which enabled the appointment of global “starchitect” Thomas Heatherwick, the UK-based visionary behind the repurposed Silo building, now home to a world-class collection of contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora. Heatherwick, no stranger to the Design Indaba, had spoken previously at the award-winning event years ahead of the Zeitz MOCAA project, and then again, when he revealed his architectural concept to bring the disused Silo building back to life. His plan for the building was revealed live to the Design Indaba audience at the 2014 edition of the conference. Heatherwick returned to the Design Indaba speaker line-up in 2018, and his appearance in Cape Town was timed to mark the opening of the new gallery wing. As a thank you to the Design Indaba for the vital role it has played, Zeitz MOCAA approached Naidoo with the idea of naming a wing of the gallery after the Design Indaba.
