Africa Luxury & Wealth Summit To Be Hosted At Belmond Mount Nelson On The 27th Of February 2018

The 2018 edition of the Africa Luxury & Wealth Summit will be held at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, in Cape Town (South Africa) on the 27th of February and will be attended by luxury brand owners and wealth managers from South Africa and beyond. The Summit, which in association with Pernod Ricard and the Financial Times, will address the theme – ‘Tectonic Luxury – Changing Dynamics in African Luxury & Wealth’. An exclusive Champagne Reception will be hosted by Perrier-Jouët at The Stack Members Club, one of the city’s leading private clubs.

Hendrik Vermeulen was born in 1982, in Fauresmith/ Free State, South Africa.

The couture prodigy started sewing at age 6 under the supervision of his mother, a skilled seamstress and talented dressmaker. At age 15, he sold his first evening dress and started to focus all his attention on the fashion industry while attending various related fashion workshops and classes.

In 2001 Hendrik enrolled in an intensive Haute Couture course at a private fashion institution in Pretoria (FDI) and received his diploma in Haute Couture together with the coveted “Student of the Year” award. Shortly after finishing his studies, Hendrik relocated to Cape Town where he gained experience working for renowned Couturier Gert van de Merwe.

In 2007 Hendrik Vermeulen decided to start on his own business producing custom made bridal wear and exclusive formal evening wear under his own label while still managing Gert van de Merwe’s atelier and international operations from Cape Town.

2009 is an important year as it marks the start of the “Hendrik Vermeulen Couture” fashion house as well as the opening of the first “Atelier Couture” in the outskirts of Cape Town; these premises were soon replaced in October 2012 workshop/atelier and 120m2 Flagship Boutique in the Centre of the Cape Town CBD, in a historical building nestled within the perimeter of the renowned Heritage Square on Breë street.

Since 2012, the Hendrik Vermeulen brand offers a very exclusive range of Prêt-à-Porter garments under the label “Simply Vermeulen” consisting of Womenswear, Resort wear and accessories of the highest quality craftsmanship. Hendrik Vermeulen has to date designed and produced several Couture and Prêt-à-porter collections and they have been visible on the international fashion week runways including New York and Rome.

The dedicated Couture services are offered in Gauteng and Cape Town.

Matt Morley Bio:

Matt Aspiotis Morley founded Biofit Health & Fitness (www.biofit.io) in 2015 combining a nature-inspired, health-oriented gym environment and proprietary fitness method. After two pop-ups in London, Biofit Calgary opened in Canada in 2017 at Natural Way Chiropractic and a second followed at the Karolinska Institutet medical university in Stockholm, Sweden in early 2018. Via Biofit, Matt has delivered two scientific research projects into the health benefits of ‘indoor green exercise’ and ‘biophilic design’ with a team of academics from the University of Essex.

He is also Brand Director of Porto Montenegro (2010-today), a mixed-use superyacht marina and residential real estate development where he is responsible for creative real estate development and new business concepts.He previously spent five years with Luxury Branding in London & Cape Town working on projects for Armani Hotels, One&Only Resorts and Seeff, as well as various local start-ups. He helped launch the Southern Africa Luxury Association (SALA) in 2008 and ran his own Anglo-Russian luxury lifestyle magazine from 2005-2011.

Matt has a BA in European Studies from University College London (UCL) and a Masters in Communication & Marketing from Milan (IED); he is a qualified fitness instructor, speaks four European languages and currently resides in Barcelona, Spain.
