South Africa’s tallest building lights up for a golden Ferrero Rocher® festive celebration
This festive season, South Africa joined Ferrero Rocher’s growing global community in celebrating the happiest time of the year in a dazzling display of lighting wizardry. The international Ferrero Rocher® Light Up Your Christmas campaign landed in Sandton, Johannesburg, where it made a grand statement by illuminating the tallest tower in the country’s most significant commercial hub, on the night of 23 November 2023.
Loved all round the world for its indulgent smooth milk chocolate and crunchy hazelnuts in elegant gold foil wrappers, Ferrero Rocher® – the brand that makes golden moments more golden – is perfect for any gifting or hosting occasion.
The spectacular Sandton event, a first for Ferrero Rocher® in South Africa, joins other such golden moments worldwide heralding the start of Christmas time in cities across the globe, from Mexico to Mojácar in Spain. For the South African edition, the Ferrero Rocher® team picked The Leonardo in Sandown, which stands almost 228 metres high, enrobing it in captivating animations courtesy of the latest projection-mapping technology operated.
A special projector, a Christie M 4K25 RGB unit was flown in from the UK just for the event. It was the first time a projector like this has been used in South Africa and it is currently the only one in the country. The unit was used in tandem with two Christie Boxer 4K 3 Chip True Life DLP UHD 30000 Ansi Lumens projectors to increase colour intensity. The dynamic digital artwork was displayed on the surface of the building, visible to onlookers for kilometres around.

To mark the occasion, a glamorous and exclusive gathering of 50 South African celebrities, media and social media personalities toasted to a peaceful and happy festive season, cheering the lit-up building as it came to life. Guests were dressed in ‘a touch of gold’ and included the likes of influential personalities Mihlali Ndamase (mihlalii_n), Lasizwe (@lasizwe) and others, who were hosted by Ferrero Rocher® at a specially decorated viewing venue at the nearby Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel.
