The African Ecstasy collection by Chommies finds euphoria in the myriad of colours and the stillness of the Great Karoo

Known and loved for vivacious and bold colour, lifestyle brand Chommies has once again put dog accessories up in lights with its latest collection, African Ecstasy.

A celebration of the wild and wonderful magic of South Africa’s Great Karoo, African Ecstasy takes its inspiration from the kaleidoscopic colours that burst through sunsets and succulent blooms, juxtaposed against earthy textures and the rawness of the landscape. The result is a euphoric collection of fluoro-pops set against a calming canvas of neutral tones, guaranteed to leave you high on happiness.

‘When you set wild, bright colours against arid stillness, like the calm and serenity of the Karoo, something quite magical happens. Coming out of Covid, I was inspired by AfrikaBurn with its sense of expanse and festivity. I loved the idea of echoing this blazing palette against fur tones, which contrastingly are quite neutral’ Nathalie Kjiln, founder and creative director of Chommies explains.

The leather, rope and hand-whipped statement collars and leashes are available in eight new colourways: African Twist, Atomic Carrot, Blue Dory, Camo Glow, Pink Punk, Purple Barney, Something Sweet and Spicy Karoo. For the delight of stylish dog owners, there are also basket bags, keyrings and phone accessories to match.

New to the range are dog necklaces, an entirely new concept for the brand as a whole, which can be worn on their own or playfully layered like jewellery with collars.

And it’s not only about colour and style. Practicality and comfort are every bit as important. Any of the pieces in the African Ecstasy collection make for the all-round perfect accessory, whilst also catering to particular dog sizes, temperaments and lifestyles specifically. But such a scintillating selection makes it very hard to choose – especially when Chommies offers several other collections in a range of styles and colourways. ‘We love the idea of mixing and matching collections and colours, and offering products and designs that bring luxury, joy and ease to everyday life’

All Chommies products are handmade locally in the Chommies workshop, which is situated across the road from The House of Chommies Concept Store in a beautiful Victorian townhouse. Thanks to skilled local artisans who form part of the Chommies’ team, traditional African craftsmanship such as whipping, weaving and macramé live on cleverly reimagined, whilst adding soul and story to each product. Customers can make an appointment by email to visit the workshop.
