The artistic heartbeat of Hout Bay and Llandudno is about to be amplified with the launch of the first-ever Hout Bay Llandudno Art Fair, garnering an overwhelming response from the creative community with over 100 artist submissions. The inaugural event will run from January 31 to February 2, 2025, at the Ghuba Gallery on Victoria Avenue, just a stone’s throw from Suikerbossie Restaurant.

The fair is brought to life by three local art leaders: Sam Whittaker, a graduate of Sotheby’s London Curating Programme and founder of Curatorial Edge; Georgina Vintin, a renowned ceramist and teacher; and Bianca Said, founder of Social Studio SA. Their collaboration aims to elevate Hout Bay and Llandudno’s artistic profile to match other celebrated Cape Town cultural districts.

“We’re creating more than just an art fair,” says Whittaker. “This is about establishing a platform that celebrates our community’s rich artistic talent while making a meaningful impact on youth education through our partnership with Lalela.”

From the carefully curated selection of 60-70 shortlisted artists, the fair will showcase various mediums including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, and mixed media works. Notable exhibitors include Carol Lebe, whose mixed media piece “Mothers of the Digital Womb” explores African women’s evolution in the digital age, and Grace Cross, whose vibrant oil paintings celebrate motherhood through a multicultural lens.

In a significant commitment to community development, the fair has partnered with Lalela as its Official Charity Beneficiary. Lalela’s award-winning programs use the power of art to inspire young minds, offering at-risk youth a pathway to express themselves creatively and achieve academic success. For every ticket sold, R20 will be donated to support Lalela’s initiatives.

The four-day event begins with an Exclusive Preview Evening on Thursday, January 30th (17:00-19:00), featuring a champagne reception and live music. This curated experience offers art enthusiasts, collectors, and connoisseurs first access to the fair’s artworks in an inspiring setting. Preview tickets are R350 per person (18+ only, limited availability).
