An iconic French bubbly, GH Mumm boasts a luxurious sensibility that has been translated into a beautiful new branded environment within Seelan Restaurant & Bar at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Created in the finest materials – as befitting the champagne – the self-contained GH Mumm area consists of a striking bar front, counter, DJ deck and arched back display. NightVision’s design solution celebrates GH Mumm’s rich identity yet sympathetically and seamlessly transitions into the rest of the upmarket Seelan Restaurant & Bar interior.

Elements of the GH Mumm brand identity – most specifically the packaging design – have been directly translated and reinforced through the use of red, gold and white. Gold finishes were used for the inlaid GH Mumm insignia on the bar front and the laser-cut detailing on the counter-top. The cutout shapes themselves reflect elements of the brand.

Red LED strip lighting illuminates the arched back bar with a warm crimson glow, and serves to highlight an exclusive display of GH Mumm bottles of varying sizes. The arched structure mimics the dockside architecture of the V&A Waterfront in a nod to the greater context and the harbour just beyond Seelan’s doors. The structure is rendered in waterproof materials to allow for weathering due to its proximity to the docks.

A slab of white marble forms the counter. NightVision cleverly recessed all DJ equipment below the countertop to make way for a topside display of oysters on ice – a perfect pairing for premium champagne, and one that cements associations of pleasure and luxury.

NightVision (a division of parent company Inhouse Brand Architects) has allowed its longstanding client Pernod Ricard to forge a successful connection with Seelan’s popular establishment by integrating GH Mumm into the restaurant in a desirable way that only enhances what was there before.
