Savour Lunch Time Faire At Carne Constantia
Housed in a beautiful Victorian building in the heart of the Southern Suburbs, Carne Constantia is another gem in the crown of master Italian chef, Giorgio Nava. The restaurant is set in a beautiful garden, where fresh herbs and seasonal produce are harvested for the restaurant’s flavoursome dishes – making it the perfect venue for a leisurely lunch.
Like its sister restaurants in Cape Town’s legal district and trendy Kloof Street, Carne Constantia specialises in classic Italian faire including a selection of fresh salads and antipastis, delicately seasoned mains, and homemade pastas. The restaurant incorporates all of the elements which have become synonymous with the acclaimed Carne SA brand – with hints of Carne’s signature deep red, grey and wood décor – while the rich heritage of the building and the aromatic garden setting create a relaxed atmosphere to while away the afternoon.
“Each of our branches has its unique characteristics but they all offer the same quality and thoughtfully prepared dishes,” says owner Giorgio Nava. “What I love most about Carne Constantia is how the location, with its leafy green streets and mountains in the distance, lends itself to a long lunch with friends or a relaxed business meeting over light Italian cuisine.”
Carne Constantia’s menu includes a number of favourites including homemade ravioli filled with slow-baked shoulder of Karoo lamb, topped with sage butter and parmesan, chicken breast baked with white wine and mushrooms, and the grilled linefish of the day, unique to the Constantia menu. Fresh and light options include inspired salads like the L’Insalta Caprese, with creamy burrata mozzarella, tomato, capers, fresh basil and lashes of Morgenster Extra Virgin Olive oil, or the L’Insalata di Avocado, with avocado on greens, topped with cherry tomatoes, crunchy pecan nuts and fresh pear, finished with blue cheese and Morgenster Extra Virgin Olive Oil – amongst others. For those looking for a midafternoon pick-me-up to end off their meal, Nava’s rich dark chocolate fondant and creamy tiramisu are not to be missed.
Diners can choose between the sleek and stylish interior of the dining rooms, the sunny ambience of the glass conservatory or al fresco dining on the restaurant’s garden veranda. In addition, Carne Constantia offers an element of intimacy with a private dining room that seats up to 10 patrons.
“We opened our restaurant in Constantia just over a year ago and have received amazing feedback from local residents and visitors to the area,” says manager Jami De Witt. “We offer a full lunch and dinner service and our recipes are all authentic Italian, using the freshest and best quality ingredients, prepared with passion.”
Carne Constantia is conveniently located at 114 Constantia Main Road and is open for lunch, Monday to Saturday, from 12h00 to 15h00, and 18h00 to 22h00 for the dinner service. Closed on Sundays.
