Named for the surrounding dockyards and located within view of the picturesque tugboat moorings and the waters of Cape Town harbour, The Yard is an exciting new concept store-cum-bistro-bar that is set to become the go-to retail and dining experience of the recently launched Silo District at the V & A Waterfront.

Perfectly situated on the public plaza directly opposite the astounding Zeitz MOCAA building, The Yard has  “location, location, location” aplenty, but instead is all about “destination”. With its embracive, 360-degree offering, The Yard is an emporium that goes all out to please patrons with a fresh mix of the delectable and desirable – from vegan smoothies to indulgent gourmet gifting. It’ll be to Cape Town what Dean & Deluca is to New York City.

The Yard will shine with carefully selected options that cater with sensitivity and style to both local and international visitors, as well as the surrounding local businesses and residents. And there are choices aplenty!

The fresh bar will power up with on-the-spot smoothies and juices – after all, The Yard is located directly below the Virgin Active Collection Silo District. The space’s new retail zone will see an array of farm-fresh deli items, followed by curated displays of urban-friendly homeware and accessories, and then there’s a bistro section. What’s more, if you’re looking for a refined and upscale tasting experience, there is a fine dining section that will be open for lunch and dinner and is also geared to accommodate private functions. So, the office worker grabbing a quick coffee on the run, the health-conscious individual, the romantic looking for a date night solution, and anyone in between, are all taken care of…

This progressive new outlet is the brainchild of dynamic retailer and hospitality visionary, Abigail Bisogno, and her business partner, the successful restaurateur, GP Singh.

Bisogno explains: “The inspiration for The Yard came from my wine farm background, and my creation of the Spice Route Destination in Paarl, together with my partner’s experience in the food industry over the last 15 years.”

Although the two come from vastly different cultures – Bisogno was raised in the Cape Winelands and Singh hails from the Punjab in India – they share a combined love for fusion and collaboration, which they wanted to express in the formation of The Yard.

“GP and I share a vision and passion for Euro-Asian cuisine that seeks to unify Asia-Indian-European flavours,” she explains. “We intend to make our new space in the Silo District the destination where this type of food and our unique brand of retail can be experienced and enjoyed!”

The Yard is scheduled to open at the end of September 2017.
