About the designer

Holly Birkby was originally trained as a jeweller, and has worked as a design lecturer and in fields as diverse as foundry-work and floristry. In addition to her product design work for Carrol Boyes, she makes drawings, bronzes and silver art jewellery. Her designs are simple, modern and sometimes playful with clean, elegant lines, which are well expressed by the graphic quality and purity of laser-cut stainless steel. Her Alicanto, Moby and Sanctuary stainless steel ranges for Carrol Boyes show the influence of 1950s and 1960s graphics and Scandinavian design, while the Sanctuary pewter range combines modernism with the enigmatic quality of ancient artefacts. Other ranges include Wings, Sprig as well as numerous trophies for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
