You needn’t leave the kids at home when visiting this year’s Investec Cape Town Art Fair at the CTICC from 14-16 February 2020, as stimulating creative activities await the young – and the young at heart – at Lalela’s exhibition presence at the fair. The non-profit arts education programme for at-risk youth will be exhibiting artworks created by Lalela learners as well as hosting Kids-4-Kids Tours, in addition to mounting an Interactive White Wall which invites all visitors to make their mark…

This year, Lalela will show off a range of inspiring artworks created by youth at-risk who participate in Lalela’s arts education programme. Selected pieces will be exhibited on the walls of Lalela’s stand and are available for purchase, with the proceeds going towards funding the NPO. What’s more, Lalela will coordinate Kids-4-Kids Tours taking place on 14 and 15 February 2020. As the name suggests, these are curated tours of the fair aimed at fellow school pupils, coordinated and undertaken by Lalela learners themselves.

The Kids-4-Kids Tour Guides are chosen from Lalela’s Grade 11 and 12 learners at Silikamva and Hout Bay High Schools, and they will be assisted by Lalela alumni. Tour groups – which ideally cater for kids from Grades 9 to 12 – will set off every 45 minutes from the Lalela stand, located at #F4. There will be 10 to 15 learners per group and approximately 4 to 6 groups per time slot.

Lalela Image 1In addition to the tours, Lalela will be creating an Interactive White Wall with support from Parrot Products and this will be housed on the Lalela stand for the duration of the fair. Visitors of any age – the activation is open to all – will be invited to write or draw on the board using white board markers. It is free to participate in this fun and stimulating activity and participants are encouraged to share their visual response to the question “What word defines your identity?” within a predetermined circle on the wall. As the show progresses, more and more drawings and text will be added to the wall so that it becomes one of the dynamic focal points of the fair.

And just when you thought Lalela’s presence couldn’t get any better, you’ll be pleased to learn that Lalela Scarf, an international luxury fashion brand that exclusively supports Lalela, will be launching its 2020 Winter Collection at the fair. This coming season’s collection looks to substantial, heavy fabrics like wool blends and cashmere as the base materials for a glorious expression of printed artworks drawn from originals produced by Lalela learners. Pieces from the new collection will be on sale at the fair, alongside leatherware and menswear collections.

Lalela Scarf’s new winter range will be available through selected retail outlets as well as online via www.thelalelascarf.co.za or www.thelalelascarf.org.
